My time at Swami Vivekananda Shiksha Samiti (SVSS India)

Bio: Currently working as an Assistant Manager at D’Décor Exports Pvt.Ltd - Mumbai

Qualifications: MBA-Operations & Supply Chain/B.Tech-Mechanical Engineering

About my experience at SVSS: I had the opportunity to volunteer for Swami Vivekanand Shiksha Samiti (SVSS) during the pandemic. My role involved contributing to two key initiatives:

1. Women Empowerment & Livelihood Program

I actively participated in initiatives aimed at promoting innovative solutions for the employment of vulnerable women. This involved identifying skill development programs that could provide sustainable livelihoods for women who had lost their sources of income due to the pandemic. I worked closely with SVSS to explore vocational training opportunities in areas like handicrafts, tailoring, and digital literacy to help these women transition into self-employment or small-scale businesses.

2. Child Care & Missing Children Database Management

I contributed to SVSS’s Child Rights initiative by maintaining and managing databases of missing children. This task was crucial in ensuring that real-time data was available for organizations and authorities working towards child rescue and rehabilitation. I collaborated with teams to analyze trends, validate records, and update missing children's information, helping to create a structured system for better tracking and intervention.

Challenges faced:

 • Limited Digital Infrastructure: Many women lacked access to digital platforms for skill development, making online training difficult. Finding alternative, accessible solutions was a major challenge.

• Coordination with Local Authorities: Managing databases for missing children required cross verification with multiple agencies, which was often time-consuming and complex.

 • On-Ground Implementation: The transition from training to actual employment for women was not always seamless, requiring continuous support and guidance even after skill development programs were completed.

Despite these challenges, my time at SVSS was incredibly rewarding, as I was able to contribute towards sustainable livelihood solutions for women and strengthen child protection efforts. It gave me valuable insights into the social impact sector, community engagement, and data-driven decision-making in non-profit initiatives.
